“Today is simply amazing. For the next two years, I will be the president of the
@IMChallengeug Alumni Community. Thank you for trusting me. You made the right choice…,” Olivia Komugisha took to her twitter handle last Friday 24th July,2021 after being confirmed as the first president of the MCI Alumni Executive Committee volunteer position she gets to serve from 2021 to 2023.
The Media Challenge Initiative held its first digital elections through an online voting interface to offer the alumni who spread across Uganda and East Africa a chance to participate in the democratic process. The different cohorts of the Media Challenge fellows cast their votes remotely on July 23th 2021. MCI has so far graduated three classes of fellows and a number of classes of Academy students.
The MCI Alumni Executive Committed has eight positions that have since been filled with members of the community that have been trusted by the majority to drive the MCI Alumni agenda. Christine Kabazira will now serve in the Co-President seat, Reagan Kiyimba as Secretary and Carol Atuhura as Communications Director. These four will also be joined by Yvonne Njuna (2018), Sarah Agwere (2019), Daniel Ayebare (2020) and Silas Muwonge who will be representing the different cohorts of the Media Challenge Fellowship and Academy Program.
Under the leadership of Oliver Komugisha, the executive committee will offer advice to the office of alumni relations, take on leadership roles in organizing events, trainings and programs for the community, fundraising as well as supporting MCI’s public policy needs. They will also foster a sense of responsibility for the different alumni in addition to mentoring students and recent journalism graduates.
